1 Stefanos Foundation Exclusive l 8th September 2011 Attack on Tsohon Foron
Tsohon Foron community of Barakin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, woke up
mourning again this morning as 9 people were found dead and one critical in one of their
homes. Report says men in soldiers’ uniform came in the company of some Fulani herdsmen
and attacked the house of Da Danjuma GyangTsok. It would later be 10 dead as the one
critical couldn’t survive his treatment.
An eye witness, who spoke to Stefanos Foundation, said at about 11:15pm he saw 9 soldiers
and 5 fulani men in the village. Being one of the vigilante on duty, he said he was kin to find
out their mission in the community, he said following the news of resent killings in other parts
of the area, the sight of Fulani men and soldiers in their community would normally raise
interest.
“I then moved close to interrogate them”. He said, “that distracted them from entering one of
the houses, not knowing that they had already attacked a house before coming to this
particular house.” He further explained to Stefanos Foundation that he escaped death narrowly
because one of the soldiers shot at him and followed him until he ran out of sight.
The sound of their gun shots attracted other vigilante members and they were chased out of
the village. When we returned, we discovered that they had already accomplished their
horrendous act, killing 9 from one house and left one lying between live and death. The later
was taken for treatment but couldn’t survive the injuries. . One of the victims is a woman and her three children, just arrived the
village to visit a relation that night.
