ADVICE FOR THE FLU SEASON
Medical science has determined that attitude influences susceptibility to disease, especially infection by viral or bacterial agents. People who, by their nature, are cheerful and upbeat are less prone to illness than are those who are consistently grumpy malcontents. Thus, the surly bird gets the germ.
I cannot believe that my illness is natural. I suspect Satan, and therefore I am the more inclined to take it lightly.
Martin Luther, stricken with a sudden illness
The common cold, if left untreated, lasts about two weeks. If treated with medication and rest, it lasts about fourteen days.
I can't explain myself, I'm afraid, because I'm not myself, you see. Lewis Carroll
It is only when the rich are sick that they fully feel the impotence of wealth. --Charles Caleb Colton (1780-1832)_Lacon_ [1820-1822]
The deviation of man from the state in which he was originally placed by nature seems to have proved to him a prolific source of diseases. - Edward Jenner
How sickness enlarges the dimensions of man's self to himself. --Charles Lamb (1775-1834) _Last Essays of Elia_ [1883], "The Convalescent"
Cancer is so limited...
It cannot cripple love,
It cannot shatter Hope,
It cannot corrode faith,
It cannot destroy peace,
It cannot kill friendship,
It cannot suppress memories,
It cannot silence courage,
It cannot invade the soul,
It cannot steal eternal life,
It cannot conquer the spirit.
