The changing world (35) Mar 1975

Mar 1st - Took Apollos a plateau missionary to Fadagwe bringing back the grain of Zekariya the previous worker there.
   2nd To Gwoza for communion service with Pastor Zakka (Zechariah) the leader there.
   3rd Keith Black who formerly served in Sudan came to stay and teach with me on a course for local evangelists.
   4th Cubitts have let us down over promised water so I had to go to the village well. Accompanied Keith up the hills to Ngoshe,
   5th Went to Cubitts about the water. Promised it tomorrow but they did rear my Landcover exhaust.
   7th The water tanker came but not full. Keith Black back to Maiduguri.
   8th David Telta and Nightingales came to stay.David is a veteran pastor of Chadian origin. He told me that early missionaries were thought of as afraid to die because they would not eat the local food. He said they kept a distance between them and the locals. He had worked as a houseboy and once asked to ride in the missionary's vehicle only to be asked if something was wrong with his legs.
   9th Fourteen passengers to Isge where I preached.
   11th Still getting water from the village. Pastors David and Ezekiel to dinner.
   12th To Gwalagwa for grass to thatch Bible School students roofs. Second time I have collected for thatching.
   13th Cubitts sent water. A surprise event in honour of us leaving - football match followed by food and speeches.
   14th Radio message to say we should be in Jos in ten days time for Bible School Committee. So started packing in 115F heat.
   15th Heard we will be staying at Vom from22nd. Packing divided between Vom and the next location, Langtang.
   16th Church Limankara village, lunch at Cubitts.
   18th All packed and to Maiduguri with our bed on the landcover roof. Saw the plans for TEE work.
   19th Nine hours of church missionary committee allocating the workers from the plateau.
   20th Bible School Committee upgraded the local course to two years. With family to zoo. Liked new rhino but the boys preferred the crocodiles.
   21st District Church Council finished early evening.Maiduguri feels cooler as there is electricity and therefore, fans.
   22nd Nine and a half hours to drive to Vom. Housed on the old compound.
   23rd Breakfast Blanches, lunch Jan Thomas, supper at Carling's.
   24th Family to Jos. At Bible School Committee I was appointed TEE supervisor for the whole church.
   28th Preached Good Friday sermon at Vom.
   29 to Gindiri staying there for church leaders conference.
   30th Good Easter Day sermons from Barnaba Dusu and Bitrus Yamden
   31st Tom Owens gave good exposition and Alexander law lectured on old customs.
