The changing world (26) Mar 1974

March began with heath trying to form a minority government. Visited people in Aylsebury and Amersham discussing programmed instruction for TEE work. First Sunday, Welwyn Evangelical the ]n Potters bar FIEC in a new building . They are formerly Brethren. Mar 4 Liberals refuse coalition with heaths Wilson is PM. Spoke at Balls Park College of Education. Talked with War on Want for them to take on Vom Hospital as a project also met ECHO who supply missions. Saw Prof Fairbairn at The Square and Jack and Alison Jenner who are considering Nigeria (they did not come). Spoke at SUM day conference at Winchmore Hill Baptist.
Sunday 10th spoke at Ealing IPC lunching with Cradocks. She is a member. He is not, a BBC Radio producer later to die tragically. Arranging supplies and sending drug samples to Vom. Spoke at Welwyn. Visited Brian Boddy's mother and brother in Bedford. £30 stereo bought. Visited ANCC to talk TEE with EUSA missionaries. Met the Kimbers who are applying to SUM. Geoff was an undergraduate contemporary of mine in London. He read classics. His original upbringing was Gospel Standard (hypercalvinist) Strict Baptist. After Nigeria he was ordained Anglican - quite a journey, But then I went form Methodist via FIEC to Presbyterian.
21st failed attempt to kidnap Princess Anne in The Mall. Visited colleagues the Clarks on leave in Thame. 24th our boys had their first evening service at Welwyn. 26th Banner of Truth Ministers' Conference, Leicester. Donald MacLeod on assurance. Brilliant but what a strange presentation with quiet Lewisian voice and cultural attuned to the Free Church not the evangelical context in England. Visited mu uncle, Roy Weeks, a grocer and still Brethren as he was raised. Back to London saw The Exorcist. Scariest film ever. Brilliant production suited to all who do not believe in the reality of the supernatural and evil.Tole people giggling with the tension to shut up. Evangelicals had tended to protest it. They should have told their non-Christian friends to go and then witness to them. There is a much better end to this story than the priest's suicide portrayed in the film. Saw Leeds lose at West Ham. Peter Geear preached at Ealing IPC. He was much better than the Potters bar FIEC preacher in the evening 31st.
